Background
He is the lead anaesthetist for a top London Hospital and responsible for a team of colleagues who offer emergency cover out of hours. He also leads a team of Anaesthetists who offer sedation and anaesthetic techniques for Endoscopy and Radiology procedures.
He provides anaesthetic expertise for a great number of robotic surgery procedures relating to the prostate, bowel, liver, pancreas, gynaecological and ENT procedures. He has been closely involved with robotic surgery and the anaesthetic training required for these procedures since 2005.
He led the acute pain service at the Homerton Hospital in London for over 10 years. Since 2012 he has had a particular interest in in-patient pain services. He is part of the Acute Pain Team at The London Clinic, Harley Street. He has expertise in acupuncture and advanced pain management techniques.
Since 2013 he has been a CQC specialist advisor attending hospital visits and is also an appraiser for The London Clinic and the Independent Doctors Federation. He has a great deal of experience of clinical governance, quality insurance and patient safety.
He set up a centre of excellence providing care for all issues relating to prostate disease, including prostate cancer. This allowed him to develop an interest in Men’s Health, while practising all areas of Anaesthesia for adult patients.
Training
He trained in major teaching hospitals throughout London, including St Georges Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital and Kings College Hospital. He was lecturer and senior registrar in the Department of Anaesthetics at Kings in 1989. He developed an interest in respiratory medicine; his research examined the oxygen cost of breathing.
Following completion of senior registrar training at Kings College Hospital and associated hospitals, he was appointed Consultant in Anaesthetics at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1992. He was Training Program Director, Deputy Regional Advisor and Head of the School of Anaesthetics for North East Thames. He remains involved with education, appraisal and training.
