Background
He graduated from Edinburgh University and trained in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Milan. He was appointed as a consultant at the North West Heart Centre, Manchester in 2006 before moving back to Edinburgh in 2009. As a cardiac electrophysiologist he has specific training in the advanced management of heart rhythm disturbances with individually tailored medication and radiofrequency ablation. He is also very experienced in the implantation and follow-up of implantable cardiac devices such as pacemakers, implantable defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices (CRT) for patients with heart failure.
Training
He is specialised in the diagnosis and management of heart rhythm disturbances. He trained in Edinburgh and spent a year at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy in the department of arrhythmology.
His first consultant appointment was at the North West Heart Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital, Greater Manchester before being appointed as Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist.
Clinical interests and areas of expertise
His main clinical interests lie in interventional cardiac electrophysiology including radio frequency ablation of both supra-ventricular and ventricular arrhythmias. He regularly implants pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices for the treatment of various heart disorders.
Research interests
He has numerous publications in the field of cardiac rhythm disorders. His main interest is in atrial fibrillation.
