Background
He was appointed consultant surgeon at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 2002. Subsequently he moved to Edinburgh, his current location of NHS practice, in 2007. He is married with 2 children and is fluent in Tamil and English.
Training
He joined Madras Medical College in 1982 and qualified in 1988 after completing one year of internship at the attached Government General Hospital in Chennai. He worked in JIPMER, Pondicherry for a year before returning to Stanley Medical College in Chennai for his higher degree in General Surgery (MS General Surgery). After completing his degree, he relocated to the UK and undertook higher surgical training in the North of Scotland.
Clinical interests and areas of expertise
He is a general and HPB surgeon with special interests in diseases of the liver (benign and malignant), pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts.
Research interests
His main research interest is clinical research involving quality improvement, emergency surgical care and stream lining patient pathways.
