Background

Graduated from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital, London and carried out the surgical training programmes in Cambridge and London.  He was warded an MRC Clinical fellowship researching in pelvic floor dysfunction and carried out further sub-specialist colorectal training fellowships to Sydney, Paris and St Mark’s Hospital.
He has specialist expertise in complex colorectal diseases, including colorectal cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative colitis, enterocutaneous fistula, complex anal fistula, anorectal and pelvic floor problems (incontinence, evacuatory difficulty, constipation) and pelvic floor reconstruction.  Now Senior Colorectal surgeon and Lead for IBD and Intestinal Failure surgery at Barts NHS Trust.
He is actively involved in training at all levels including MB BS, MRCS, Intercollegiate FRCS and Royal College of Surgeons of England and is an invited speaker at national and international conferences.

  • Further specialist colorectal training in Sydney, Paris and St Marks’ Hospital.
  • MRC Fellowship for PhD research at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Clinical interests and areas of expertise

  • Cancer (primary and recurrent disease) including trans-anal minimally invasive techniques (TAMIS) and HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)).
  • Complex inflammatory bowel disease surgery including EC fistula, pelvic floor disorder (incontinence, evacuatory problems) – dynamic graciloplasty, anal fistula (novel approaches to complex high fistulas.
  • HALO procedure for haemorrhoids.
  • Combined service operation with Gynecology Oncology department for the management of complex pelvic disease.
  • Stage IV endometriosis – combined surgery with Gynaecology.

Research interests

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction and colonic dysmotility, treatments with peripheral neuromodulation
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Sphincter preservation surgery
  • Anorectal reconstruction with dynamic graciloplasty
  • Complex fistula in ano reconstruction (rectovaginal fistula)
